The Benedictine monastery of Neresheim

Kuppelfresko

Neresheim – the small tranquil Swabian town is located in the eastern part of Baden-Wuerttemberg and the Swabian Alb, between Heidenheim; Aalen and the Bavarian town Nördlingen. The region Härtsfeld is ideally suited for hiking and cycle tours.

The Benedictine monastery of Neresheim
The imposing abbey on the Ulrichsberg was founded in 1095 as a prebendary chapter. From 1747 onwards the monastery church was constructed according to the plans of the eminent master builder Balthasar Neumann and decorated with dome frescos by Martin Knoller from 1770 to 1775. It was completed in 1793.
There still live Benedictine monks in the abbey. A Hotel with restaurant and a book shop are open for visitors throughout the year.

Concerts
The Sunday concerts, which have been held for over 25 years in the Neresheim monastery church with well-known musicians from all over Europe, offer musical highlights in the summer months.
(Dates in 2008: 22nd June, 13th July, 7th September and 21st September)
