Gomadingen

The climatic health resort of Gomadingen with its 2,200 inhabitants and its suburbs of Marbach, Dapfen, Wasserstetten, Grafeneck, Steingebronn und Offenhausen lies 680-844 metres above sea level in the attractive countryside of the Lauter Valley on the Swabian Alb. Gomadingen is a park for hikers with beechwoods, juniper heaths, gentle hills, lush meadows in the valleys and evan mighty mountain ridges. It is a real paradise for hikers. The main attraction is the over 400 years old stud farm in Marbach which with its horses, in particular the thoroughbred Arabs, enjoys a world-wide reputation. A further attraction is the stud farm museum in Offenhausen which was opened in 1987. It is housed in the former Dominican monastery directly beside the source of the River Lauter in Offenhausen. It is also well worth visiting the Sternberg Tower, the ruins of Blankenstein castle as well as the exhibition of old agricultural tools in the town hall in Gomadingen. In the reading room there is also a video show for visitors. There is a selection of leisure activities which range from an indoor swimming pool with a sauna, pools for Kneipp´s hydrotherapy, solarium and open-air terrace, tennis, open-air chess, boccia, trips in a horse-drawn carriage or covered waggon, well sign-posted hiking paths, nature trails and a field showing the agricultural possibilities of the area to winter sports facilities.
